Privacy policy

This policy covers the Banter waitlist at banterdebate.com. Banter isn’t live yet; this page only collects what it needs to tell you when it launches.

What we collect

• Your email address, typed in or shared by Google or Apple when you choose “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Apple”.
• How you signed up: email, Google or Apple, and where you came from (for example a link from Instagram or TikTok).
• When you signed up.
• Your side on a debate question, if you voted on one before joining (for example “Not art” on “AI-generated art is real art”).

With Google or Apple, we only ask for your email address. We don’t get your password, contacts or any other profile details, and no Banter account is created. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only receive Apple’s private relay address.

How we use it

We use your email to tell you when Banter launches and to send occasional updates about the launch. We count signups to show how many people are waiting. We also count visits to this page, noting only where the visit came from (for example Instagram or a Google search), whether it was a phone or computer, and whether your browser had visited before. This visit count doesn’t include your email, IP address or anything else that identifies you. Votes on the debate questions are only added to each question’s totals, which is all anyone else sees. If you vote and then join, we keep your side with your signup so we can match you with someone who sees it the other way when Banter launches. Other people on the waitlist never see how you voted. We don’t sell or rent your information, and we don’t use it for advertising.

Where it’s stored

Signups are stored in a database hosted by Supabase. The site is hosted by Vercel, which, like most hosts, keeps short-lived technical logs such as IP addresses. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Your browser also keeps a note on your device that you’ve visited before and of your place in line so the page remembers you joined; clearing your site data removes it.

How long we keep it

We keep your email until Banter launches and we’ve let you know, or until you ask us to remove it, whichever comes first.

Your choices

You can ask us to show you what we hold about you or to delete it at any time. Every email we send will also include a way to unsubscribe.

Age

Banter is for people 18 and over, and so is this waitlist. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think someone under 18 has signed up, contact us and we’ll delete it.
